Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd.’s Technical Director and Honorary Professor of Chemistry at Nottingham University, Dr Simon Grant has been awarded an MBE for services to diversity in the chemical industry. Simon has worked in the chemical industry for over 25 years, with a focus on research, development and latterly sustainability. Simon is passionate about improving diversity within the chemical industry and sciences and has been a member of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee at the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
Dr Ale Palermo, RSC Head of Global Inclusion, congratulated Simon saying: “Simon is an outstanding Black British chemist, proudly from the North of England. He has overcome barriers and bias to hold senior positions with the chemical manufacturing industry and is a role model for young Black chemists, a group under-represented within science. I am so pleased to see Simon’s honour, recognising his passion for improving diversity within the Chemical Sciences.”
Harry Swan, CEO and Owner of Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd. commented: “Simon’s MBE is well deserved recognition of his commitment to, and passion for, diversity in our industry. I’m delighted for him, especially as the award further enhances his credentials as an outstanding role model.”
