Three Thomas Swan products were recently approved by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferred® program. Can you tell us a little bit more about this?
Third-party verification for a product’s biobased content is administered through the USDA BioPreferred® program, which aims to increase the development, purchase, and use of biobased products.
Thomas Swan’s Casamod™ 450 (72% biobased),Casamod™ 500, and Casamod™ 650 (97% biobased) are additives used in the synthetic rubber industry. These products can now display a unique USDA label indicating the percentage of biobased content in each product.
Can you tell us about Thomas Swan Polymer Performance Solutions?
The Polymer Performance Solutions division specialises in providing innovative solutions for the polymer industry. Our aim is to supply high-performance additives and materials to enhance the functionality and sustainability of polymer-based products.
Can you share some characteristics of the Casamod™ range? What benefits do they offer?
The Casamod™ range of products enhance mechanical properties, durability, and processability of synthetic rubber compounds. Polymer and rubber manufacturers can achieve superior performance by incorporating Casamod™ while increasing the auditable bio-based content of their own products.
How will Thomas Swan continue to drive sustainability as a core business objective?
Absolutely, in addition to approval of three Casamod™ products by the USDA BioPreferred® program, the recent acquisition of the Anaerobic Digestion plant on our manufacturing site emphasises our commitment to advancing sustainable solutions and will result in sustained and significant electrical output from the plant that will allow us to run our production on 100% renewable electricity. This will be a significant step forward on our journey to become carbon neutral by 2030.
